Finding the right balance between nutrition and eating habits.

WHAT IS NUTRITION?

Nutrition is the science that studies the relationship between diet and health, and consists of analysing the content of food and its effects on the body.
However, it is important to emphasise that the effect of diet on health is not simply a question of the quantity and type of food eaten, it is also essential to consider eating habits, preparation methods and eating context, etc.

What is the role of diet?

Our diet must enable us to fulfil various needs:
• energy needs: the main fuel source for our muscles and all our organs, and also for producing heat. Energy requirements are mainly covered by carbohydrates and fats.
• structural needs: the "building blocks" required to build and maintain our tissues. Proteins play an essential role in this.
• functional needs: all the elements essential for ensuring that biological systems function correctly, in other words the body’s "keys". These include vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
To cover all these needs, it is essential to eat a varied diet in sufficient amounts!
